First of all let me state formally for the record that it is way too early to make any predictions whatsoever with regard to the destination of the Premier League title. Last weekend Liverpool’s comfortable (in the end at least) victory over Newcastle combined with Manchester City’s surprising capitulation away at newly promoted Norwich City […]
So there we go, that’s another Interlull disappearing from view, but what (if anything!) did we learn from it? First of all from an England perspective it seems the front three that is emerging: Sterling, Kane, Rashford/Sancho is enough to rival any in the international game. With a total of nine goals scored in the […]
Depending on your disposition after just seven matches in which the O’s have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 3, we are either doomed to an instant and ignominious return to non-league purgatory or doing about as well as expected. The opening game at home against Cheltenham in what was a highly emotional day (https://football-nerd.org/2019/08/07/orient-get-off-the-mark-on-an-emotional-day/), […]
Anyone who has read this blog at this point in any of the last few seasons will know how infuriating I find Interlulls (©Arseblog) in general but most specifically this one in early September. The season has literally just started to get going and we are all settling back into our regular football-watching routines only […]
Even in the modern football world where satellite television coverage, the Internet and the growth of the major European competitions have diluted some of our beloved game’s exoticism and mystery; it is still possible to engage in football experiences that remind us all while we fell so hopelessly in love with the game in the […]
It is impossible to dispute the quality of last season’s Premier League title race as Manchester City and Liverpool dominated the season with relentless consistency, both garnering staggering points hauls. However the ongoing arm-wrestle between them somewhat overshadowed just how far ahead they were of the rest of the field, the 25 point difference to […]
It was always going to be bittersweet: the excitement of our first game back in the Football League was inevitably going to be tempered by the emotion and grief we are all continuing to deal with after Justin’s passing. As hard as we tried to focus on the football itself we knew it was going […]
This Saturday will see the return to football-obsessive normality for Mrs Football Nerd and me as we slip back into the familiar and reassuringly comfortable matchday routine and head off to Brisbane Road for Orient’s first game back in the Football League. During pre-season we had a day out at Harlow (https://football-nerd.org/2019/07/11/an-emotional-but-reassuring-day-at-harlow/) and also warmed […]
On Monday a group of the most influential Arsenal-focused supporter organisations, blogs, and fanzines issued a joint statement damming Stan Kroenke’s “passive ownership” and his lack of ambition, purpose and direction for the club. Since the statement’s issue and associated social media campaign, Arsenal fans in their thousands have been signing the letter/petition in agreement […]
With Orient not having been in action since Wembley, some seven weeks previously, and Mrs Football Nerd and me starting to feel the full effects of football-watching withdrawal, there was no way in this world that we could resist a trek into deepest darkest Essex for the O’s first pre-season engagement of the summer. The fact […]
