Euro 2016- Thoughts on the Round of 16

Switzerland – Poland – looks to be fairly evenly matched on paper, extra time is a distinct possibility and possibly penalties. Poland on penalties for me.

Wales – Northern Ireland – Northern Ireland may well prefer playing a British side but equally the Wales defence will be prepared and used to their threat at set-pieces, plus they have Gareth Bale. Wales to win.

Croatia – Portugal – Portugal got back to some kind of form against Hungary but still looked shaky defensively. Croatia were excellent against Spain and I would fancy them to win this one.

France – Ireland – the Irish will no doubt be hunting revenge for the ‘Hand of Henry’ incident in 2009 but presuming they can rediscover their goal threat, the hosts should progress.

Germany- Slovakia – despite only managing one goal against Northern Ireland despite all the chances they created, I think Germany should get through comfortably.

Belgium – Hungary – Belgium to continue their form and sadly end the Hungarian adventure.

Italy-Spain- despite defeat to Croatia with their first choice team, I would expect Spain to bounce back. However the resolute Italian defence might make this go beyond the 90 minutes and another possible penalty shoot-out.

England – Iceland- as I said in the previous post, I wouldn’t be surprised to see England make harder work of this than it should be, but I would still expect us to get through.
